In the 32 years that I have worked in the insurance world, I have worked with all types of logistics companies. That also applies to external parties such as law firms, industry associations and expertise agencies. I use my experience to accurately estimate risk and where possible to prevent it in the long term. The sport is to find a satisfactory solution for hard-to-insure risks. It’s important that we continue to develop ourselves within our team. We regularly visit conferences and trade fairs to keep up-to-date with the latest trends. It helps us to arrive at the most suitable advice. An additional advantage: during special events about transport and logistics you often meet the most interesting people!

One great thing about Meijers is the relationship with the client, but also the closeness as a team. Recently, an insurer did not see any ground for cover and did not want to pay. The client had suffered a lot of damage in the meantime. Then we put our heads together with the whole team. We went through the various scenarios, worked out the policy together and invited the insurer for a consultation. In a calm and collected atmosphere we solved the difference of opinion and the claim was settled. We leave no stone unturned. In one of my first weeks of employment I drove up and down from Amstelveen to Vlissingen to inspect a damage claim with my own eyes. By doing this we can immediately act and coordinate with expert, insurer and client. I really like that and I never want to leave the T&L sector.

The transport market is constantly changing. The risks are the same as when I started 25 years ago, but the claims are much higher nowadays. Volumes and values of goods are increasing. Claims and risks increase. Due to globalization and the increasing number of web shops, there are more shipping movements. In fact, the whole world is interdependent. That is why you need a broker who is aware of international trade and at the same time has a partnership with international brokers. What I’m proud of? Well, last year I was awarded “the Jurriaan”. That is “the Edison” of transport insurance in the Netherlands. I got it because of my tenacity. If I believe that the insurer is not right, I will press on until the claim is settled. I will search carefully in the policy conditions, choose the right wording and take initiative ... It’s a great profession and transport is still the greatest branch for me.
